Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture - the oldest continuously employed form of medical therapy on earth - has been practiced for over twenty centuries in the Orient and since the 18th century by physicians in France. The principal of acupuncture is to restore and facilitate the harmoniously balanced flow of the natural energy of the body so that pain relief, healing and health restoration can occur.

Today "Medical Acupuncture" - acupuncture used by physicians for contemporary medical conditions – represents the unique synthesis of ancient concepts of holistic healing with modern evolving knowledge of neurophysiology and immunology.   Backed by over 7,000 published scientific articles and research papers in the National Library of Medicine, physicians are incorporating their knowledge of the human body with the practice of scientifically based acupuncture.

Due to its safety, ease and efficacy - and positive reports by the National Institutes of Health, FDA and World Health Organization - Medical Acupuncture is now being increasingly employed in the United States. Approximately 3,500 American physicians are performing Medical Acupuncture and most were trained in the rigorous, peer-reviewed UCLA School of Medicine program. For the physician, Medical Acupuncture is a unique organization of knowledge and practice that requires a transformational intellectual and clinical approach. For the patient, Medical Acupuncture provides a remarkably effective, easily tolerated and unique form of therapy.

In western medical circles, acupuncture is best recognized for its role in pain management. It may be effective as the only treatment against pain, or as part of a program involving other approaches as well. The types of pain that seem to respond especially well to acupuncture include back, neck, facial, muscular, and shoulder pain, sciatica, arthritis, and headaches.

Some forms of abdominal pain, pelvic and menstrual pain, nerve pain, and scar pain, may also respond. Research also looks promising regarding the use of acupuncture to treat such diverse conditions such as  asthma, infertility, problems during pregnancy and nausea.

Medical acupuncture represents the unique combination of the most advanced understanding of western medical science with the holistic approach for the treatment of disease found in the ancient healing traditions.
