Gerald William Grass, MD, FAAMAJames River Comprehensive Pain ManagementIs a Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and received his post graduate training in the Departments of Surgery and Neurological Surgery at the SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine. He has undergone additional training in the fields of Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan and an Intervention Pain Medicine Fellowship at the SUNY Stony Brook Center for Pain Management. In addition to his board certification by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, he is also certified by the Board of Certification in Emergency Medicine and by the American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Grass has been actively involved in the practice of Emergency Medicine for the past fifteen years and has served as the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Medina Memorial Hospital in Medina, New York from 1994 to 1997. It was because of his experiences in the field of emergency medicine that he became aware of the limitations of conventional medicine and began researching alternative therapies. Over a 10 year period he undertook training in a wide variety of alternative and complementary therapies including: neurofeedback, biofeedback, hypnosis, orthomolecular medicine, acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. He completed the prestigious Medical Acupuncture for Physicians Program at UCLA School of Medicine. He received additional training with many of the foremost practitioners worldwide including: C. Chan Gunn, MD at the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain, Vancouver, B.C. Originator of Intramuscluar Stimulation. Joseph Wong, MD at the Acupuncture Foundation Institute of Canada, Toronto, Canada. Author of Neuroanatomical Acupuncture and international lecturer Toshikatsu Yamamoto, MD, PhD Director of the Yamamoto Hospital-Acupuncture Institute, Miyazaki, Japan. Founder of Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture (YNSA). William F. Craig, MD, Originator of Craig-PENS and researcher at the University of Southwest Texas at Houston Department of Pain Management Terry Oleson, PhD. Auriculotherapy. Chair of the Department of Psychology and the Division of Behavioral Medicine at the California Graduate Institute, Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Grass has also completed the national proficiency examination in Medical Acupuncture administered by the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and has been awarded the honor of Diplomat status by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture and is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. In 1997, Dr. Grass stepped down as Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine to pursue additional advanced acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine training with the leading practitioners in Japan and China. Since that time he has developed an innovative model for the integration of western medicine with alternative therapies. In addition he has been actively engaged in teaching other physicians Medical Acupuncture and publishing research papers in the field. He has lectured to many public audiences about the benefits of Medical Acupuncture and has appeared on local television programs discussing the benefits of various forms of complementary and alternative medicine. He was also associated with the State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management where he undertook additional research and training in the field of advanced interventional pain management techniques.
